Distinguishability, contrast and complementarity in multimode two-particle interferences

چکیده

Multimode two-particle systems show interference effects in oneparticle detections when both particles have common modes. We explore the possibility of extending the usual concepts of distinguishability and visibility to these types of systems. Distinguishability will refer now to the balance between common and different modes of a two-particle system, instead of the standard definition concerning available alternatives for a one-particle system. On the other hand, the usual concept of visibility is not suitable for our problem and must be replaced with that of contrast, measuring the ratio of detection probabilities with and without interference effects. Finally, we show that for the type of states considered in the paper there is a complementarity relation between distinguishability and contrast for two-boson states. In contrast there is not a two-fermion counterpart. PACS numbers: 03.65.Ta

Path-phase duality of an interfering particle with translational-internal entanglement

The aim of this paper is to revisit the implications of complementarity when we inject into a Mach Zehnder interferometer particles with internal structure, prepared in special translational-internal entangled (TIE) states. This correlation causes the path distinguishability to be phase dependent in contrast to the standard case. We show that such a TIE state permits us to detect small phase sh...

Generic entanglement generation, quantum statistics, and complementarity.

A general and an arbitrarily efficient scheme for entangling the spins (or any spinlike degree of freedom) of two independent uncorrelated identical particles by a combination of two particle interferometry and which way detection is formulated. It is shown that the same setup could be used to identify the quantum statistics of the incident particles from either the sign or the magnitude of mea...

Single-photon interferometry with orbital angular momentum circumvents standard wave-particle duality

The wave-like behavior of single quantum particles is suppressed whenever we try to learn more about their complementary particle-like property. For twopath interferometers, e.g., the Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI), a relation describing such complementary behavior was derived and subsequently experimentally tested for massive particles as well as for photons. This relation sets an upper bou...

A Preemptive multimode resource constrained project scheduling model with cash flows

Resource constrained project scheduling problem is one of the most important issues in project planning and management. The objective function of this problem is to minimize the completion time of a project. When there is budget constraint or high risk for investment, using the criteria such as cash flows is so important. The development of computer systems and processors makes it possible to t...

Distinguishability and Many-Particle Interference.

Quantum interference of two independent particles in pure quantum states is fully described by the particles' distinguishability: the closer the particles are to being identical, the higher the degree of quantum interference. When more than two particles are involved, the situation becomes more complex and interference capability extends beyond pairwise distinguishability, taking on a surprisin...
